AllSync 4 Manual ➝ Scheduler ➝ Task

Start Type

The start type defines whether a task is triggered at a specific time or by a specific event.

The following start types are available:
  • One-Time
  • Daily
  • Weekly
  • Monthly
  • Interval
  • Windows Shutdown
  • Windows Startup
  • Connection
  • Monitoring
  • Scheduler Activation
  • Screensaver
  • System Idle
  • System Wake-Up
  • Monitor Standby

One-Time

Starts the task once at a specified date and time.

Daily

Starts the task every day at a specified time.

Weekly

Allows the task to run on selected weekdays at a specified time. You can also specify which calendar weeks the task should run.

Monthly

Allows the task to run on selected days of the month at a specified time. You can also specify which months of the year the task should run.

Interval

Runs the task daily at fixed intervals between a start and end time. You can also specify which weekdays this execution should occur.

Windows Shutdown

Starts the task when Windows is shutting down. Recognized system actions:
  1. Log off user
  2. Restart or shut down Windows
In the general scheduler options, you can define rules for how the scheduler should respond to these system actions.
Notes
  • The Windows Shutdown start type does not function when the scheduler runs as a service.
  • You can prevent task start by holding the CTRL key during Windows shutdown.
  • During task execution, the Windows shutdown dialog may appear after a delay and can be ignored. Enable 'Extend wait time before displaying Windows shutdown dialog' if the task takes too long and prevents Windows from shutting down.

Windows Startup

Starts the task after the user logs into Windows. Enable the general scheduler option 'Automatically start and activate scheduler after user login'. Prevent task start by holding the CTRL key during automatic scheduler startup.
The tolerance option defines the maximum amount of time that may pass between Windows startup and the start of the scheduler. If this time is exceeded, the task will no longer be executed.

Start only once per day
Ensures the task runs only once per day. Prevents the task from starting again after every Windows restart.

Notes for Scheduler Service
When using the scheduler service, the task starts automatically after Windows boots, without user login. The task only starts if the scheduler service is launched within the defined tolerance time.

Connection

Regularly checks if a specified folder is available. Starts the task when the folder, previously unavailable, becomes accessible. Useful for automatic synchronization with external drives like USB sticks.

Monitoring

Monitors up to two folders for changes. Starts the task once a defined number of changes is detected. Monitored changes include:
  1. Renaming, creating, and deleting files or folders
  2. File and folder attributes
  3. File size
  4. File modification date
  5. Access permissions of files and folders
The interval property defines how long the task pauses after a successful run. During this pause, the task will not restart even if the change threshold is met again.

Options

  • Monitor all subfolders
Enables change monitoring for all subfolders of the specified folders.
  • Pause monitoring during copy operation
Stops monitoring at task start and resumes it at task end.
  • Start task after the following number of changes
Defines how many changes must occur before the task starts.
  • Interval for checking folder availability
Defines how often the monitored folders are checked for availability. If a monitored folder is not found when the scheduler activates, it will keep checking until the folder is found.

Network

The Windows user who starts the scheduler must be a member of the Backup Operators group to monitor a network folder.

Monitored Changes

Overview of how many changes were registered for various file and folder actions:
ChangesAction

1File renamed
1File attributes changed
1File content edited and saved with Notepad
2File content edited and saved with WordPad

2Folder with 4 files moved into monitored folder
All actions were performed using Windows Explorer.

Scheduler Activation

Starts the task when the scheduler is activated.

Screensaver

Starts the task when the screensaver is displayed. This start type does not function when the scheduler runs as a service.
Automatically cancels the task run when the screensaver is not displayed anymore.
Cancel task run if screen saver is no longer displayed

System Idle

Starts the task after a defined idle time of the current Windows user. This start type does not function when the scheduler runs as a service. Use the interval property to define the idle time before task start.

System Wake-Up

Starts the task after the computer wakes up from standby or hibernate.

Monitor Standby

Starts the task after the monitor enters standby mode.
