Verification Check - which one recommended?

When using the Verification Check option:

Byte for byte
CRC32 (32-bit)
MD5 (128-bit)
SHA (160-bit)
Which one(s) is recommended for:
1. Media backup (music / videos / pictures) over a network.
2. Data files (Word, Excel, applicaton settings, XML, etc...) not over a network.
3. Software (.exe files) not over a network.
In other words, which option(s) should be used for the above type of backups?
