AllDup 4 release candidate
Re: AllDup 4 - Open Beta Test
Wanted to select a set of files - using the keyboard.
Set first file, then wanted to [Shift]+Ctrl+END to highlight the rest, but I couldn't do that.
I could [Shift]+arrow-key down to select them, or have used the mouse, but not Ctrl+END.
In this situation, Ctrl+END would have been optimum.
I'll have to try a different scenario to see if it "just happened to be the way", in the case, or whether that action would play out more generally...

Re: AllDup 4 - Open Beta Test
While AllDup determine the file count for the scan its only possible to cancel the complete scan progress.therube wrote:Just to note, a "scan" cannot be Paused during the file scan (count) process.
Did you scan files and folder from a network?
Re: AllDup 4 - Open Beta Test
No, these were local.Did you scan files and folder from a network?
(And actually, AllDup does much better on a network scan compared to the competition.)
Re: AllDup 4 - Open Beta Test
If a scan is Paused, Duration is not necessarily accurate.
(At least I believe that's the case.)
Duration does stop when Paused.
But, & possibly related to a pause that extended past midnight ?, when restarted (un-Paused), Duration was off, significantly.
Thinking its likely its 24 hour off, plus/or minus the time of the scan length prior to midnight?
03/07/2016 11:36:44 AM - Scan: X:\out
And currently it is, 02:49 PM 03/08/2016, with Duration showing as 27:29:49.
(Scan paused, probably ~5:PM on the 7th, then restarted ~10:AM on the 8th.)

Re: AllDup 4 - Open Beta Test
You can Save Search Results, but can you later import them?
Or does clicking on an .asr4 open Alldup, loading the results?

Re: AllDup 4 - Open Beta Test
in the context menu (right-click) for files in the search results pane the separator between 'Select all other files in this group' and 'Select all files with the same path' has been removed
I'm used to clicking the top entry in that group to 'Select all files with the same path' so I keep clicking 'Select all other files in this group' instead so could you please put that separator back in?

The .asr4 shows up in Search Results & can be loaded from there. (Whew!)You can Save Search Results, but can you later import them?

Re: AllDup 4 - Open Beta Test
RFE: Select files - Select files by name, allow partial name (string) matches (perhaps even regex?)
Such that ".OLD" would find "i.am.much.too.old.for.this" & "alldup_327.exe.OLD" (but not "i.told.you.to.be.quite").
-------
RFE: Select folder - Select folder by name (string)
Such that "ZAP" would find "X:\OUT\p\ZAP" & "X:\OUT\zipped.ddo.dat.zaparoo".
And "\ZAP" would only find "X:\OUT\p\ZAP" (or "T\p\Z" would find the same).
(It would think it not be a problem if 'Select folder' appeared in 'Select files', under 'Select files by name'.)
-------
More generally, you might say, a 'Select by Text Pattern', differentiating between Name or Path.

Re: AllDup 4 - Open Beta Test
RFE: Select Mode, option to display only groups meeting the chosen Select Mode.
So... Select Mode -> Groups with all files selected
Then, further, Display only Groups meeting chosen Select Mode (Groups with all files selected)

Re: AllDup 4 - Open Beta Test
Expand only groups... may be close enough, I'll have to think about it...
Re: AllDup 4 - Open Beta Test
Ah, ignore all that!Oddity:
I started that running last evening, & this morning, its showing all my files, but selecting files - either context-menu or Select icon is not actually selecting anything. It appears to be going through its motions - progress bar displays, but when "done", no files are selected, status bar show 0 \ 176961? Even Select All does the same, progress bar advances, status shows 0 \ 176961.Code: Select all
03/15/2016 02:39:56 PM - -------------------------------------------------- 03/15/2016 02:39:56 PM - Search: File size + File content SHA-1 (160-Bit) 03/15/2016 02:39:56 PM - Determine the file count of all source folders... 03/15/2016 02:39:57 PM - File Count: 177120 03/15/2016 02:39:57 PM - Scan: C:\USR\STEVEN\PRL 03/15/2016 02:40:03 PM - Scan: X:\out\PRL 03/15/2016 03:49:02 PM - Found 2986 duplicates with 10,805,084 Bytes in source folder 'C:\USR\STEVEN\PRL' 03/15/2016 03:49:02 PM - Found 173975 duplicates with 622,665,202 Bytes in source folder 'X:\out\PRL' 03/15/2016 03:49:04 PM - Groups: 2,980 03/15/2016 03:49:04 PM - File Comparison Count: 3,947,234 03/15/2016 03:49:04 PM - Duplicates: 176961 (99%) (604.12 MB) 03/15/2016 03:49:04 PM - Elapsed time: 01:09:08
Unselect all followed by Select all, no change.
I can highlight a selection of files (I only tried a few) & using the space-bar, can select/deselect those items.
Let me save the results, Quit, & reload ...
Decided to first close the search results (after saving & without quitting), then reload ...
No change.
Save the results, Quit, & reload ...
No change.
So at this point, for whatever reason, I seem to be unable to select in mass?
If I select a handful (dozen or so), space-bar to select (works), then Unselect all, does not change (remove) any selections.
Know why?
Select Mode -> Groups with all files selected
And I missed that!
But you can be sure the next time this happens, I'll know where to check .
So, all is (now) well.
Re: AllDup 4 - Open Beta Test
RFE: Display date/size of .asr4 in Search Results
I wanted to test something out, figured I load a saved .asr4 (Stored Search Results).
Turns out the one I happened to pick was quite large, so time consuming before the it finally loaded.
Had I realized that at the onset, I would have picked a (much) smaller .asr4 to test with.
Having size (& date) display, would have made that more obvious.

Re: AllDup 4 - Open Beta Test
Using "Select files by name" with the text pattern "*.old* will handle this.therube wrote:RFE: Select files - Select files by name, allow partial name (string) matches (perhaps even regex?)
