Re: Are checksums persisted for similar image searches?

Thanks! Yes, if a file still exists at its path in the database, automatically checking its file size and modified date is also a good idea to detect if its checksums should be re-created.

Re: Are checksums persisted for similar image searches?

How about if there was a section on the options screen for users that want to use a database to store past checksums, despite a risk of the checksums being stale? If it was optional to use it (unchecked by default), users could opt to use it only when they are scanning folders where they know the fi...

Are checksums persisted for similar image searches?

Since "Find similar pictures" searches can be very slow if you have a lot of files, I was wondering if the checksums created for the files being compared are persisted (in a database file, etc.), so that if these same files are included in future scans (even if AllDup is closed then relaun...

Re: Suggestion: Create hard links based on non-selected file in group

Thanks! Also: In the Process selected files window, if you have all files selected in a group, and "Create hard links" is selected, it would be useful if the "Don't process any groups with all files selected" option could be ignored in this case, without having to manually de-sel...

Re: Suggestion: Select highlighted files in all groups

That would work if it selected all instances of the highlighted file(s) in all groups that it/they are in, but I think it only selects the instances that are highlighted, right?

Re: Suggestion: Create hard links based on non-selected file in group

Why do you want to create hard links of files that are not exact duplicates? Because we could have a situation where all of the files in the group are all similar but not exact duplicates, and one of the files is superior in quality to the others. One example: several flatbed scans of the same page...

Re: Suggestion: Select highlighted files in all groups

How about right-click on file and use the command "Select all files with the same path"? This command can't be used for this purpose because it selects all of the files in the same folder as the one file I'm trying to remove from all of the groups. I would only want to select the highligh...

Suggestion: Create hard links based on non-selected file in group

Since AllDup version 4.4.46, hard links among files in a group are created by selecting all of the files in a group, and the first file is then automatically used for the source to create the hard links. When you have done a search for exact duplicates, this behavior is fine, as all of the files in ...

Re: Suggestion: Select highlighted files in all groups

I think the best way to describe what I mean is with an example: If you have a sufficiently large folder of similar images that have already had all of its exact duplicates removed (e.g. using a MD5 search), then run a similar images search on it. Here are the settings I used for this: Comparison me...

Re: Suggestion: Select highlighted files in all groups

Yes that's correct, but when you have the same file appearing in multiple groups, you still have to manually select or highlight that file in each of the groups it appears in in order to remove it from all groups. I think the issue I'm describing (i.e. the same file appearing in many groups) is only...

Re: Suggestion: Select highlighted files in all groups

"Remove highlighted files from the search result" still only removes the files you've manually highlighted - if you have a file that appears in multiple groups, you would still need to manually locate that file in each of the groups it's in and either highlight or select each instance of i...

Suggestion: Select highlighted files in all groups

After performing a search for non-exact duplicate files (such as similar pictures), in the search result, there are occasionally cases where one or more unique files is included among several different groups, and I would like to be able to easily select these files in all of the groups they're incl...

Suggestion: Idea to improve scanning time when finding exact duplicates

I ran AllDup looking for exact duplicates in a source folder containing around 70,000 mostly small files, each sized from 5-10 KB on average. I did a "File content" search and it completed in around 40 minutes using the MD5 method. Then as a test I ran a "File size" search and it...

Feature Request: Total Files in Folder

I have found that many times when my search results are complete, I am double-clicking the folder path of each file to see how many other files are in the same folder. I think it would be incredibly helpful if there was a "Total files in folder" column (or similar name) that when each sear...
