File and Folder Filters Sometimes Do Not Work
There’s some files and folders that I know are duplicates and want to exclude from the search. I have already added them to the filter(s), but they keep showing up in the search results anyway, and I have to manually remove them every time. I think I figured out why. Looking at the search results, i...

Re: Tip: Combine Folder Dialogs
Thanks for your feedback! Figure 1 I removed the unnecessary edit field and the checkbox. It’s not really unnecessary, it’s just a little redundant, but still convenient. (I recently noticed a few new tricks and tweaks in the newer versions that are really nice, like the information in the scanning...

Tip: Combine Folder Dialogs
Hi, I just wanted to suggest that the various folder-selection dialogs can be combined: Figure 1 : The Select All Within Folder-Structure dialog has both a folder tree and a direct-enter edit field http://i.imgur.com/OC3d6In.png Figure 2 : The Add Folder dialog needs the direct-enter edit field http...

Different Source-Folder Option is Inefficient
Hi, The option Detect only duplicates from different source folders can be useful, but it is implemented inefficiently. Currently what it does is to wait until all files have been scanned as normal, then filter out the results. This means that a lot of unnecessary comparisons are done. Instead, the ...

Save-Resume Scan function?
Would it be possible to make it so that a scan can be stopped and saved, then continued later? If a scan takes a particularly long time, it is not always possible to just let it run and would be good if it could be stopped and resumed later on. (I recently had a scan that went for ~12 hours. It was ...

Nevermind. It looks like it already is doing it correctly, but the other way around: a b c d e f a b + c + + d + + + e + + + + f + + + + + It means that each file takes longer and longer to do so it feels like it is getting slower as it progresses, but then, it also reduces the number of files compa...

Comparisons seem to be duplicated
I’m watching the file-comparisons during a scan. It looks like files are being compared twice . For example, if there are two files: a.txt and b.txt , it looks like AllDup is comparing a.txt, b.txt and b.txt, a.txt even though both of those comparisons are identical. This means double the number of ...

Prompt Needed When Cancelling Search
I was just running a nasty, long scan of ~300,000 8,192-byte files (which means millions of comparisons). After ~30 minutes, it was ~20% complete when I tried to minimize the window. Unfortunately, I accidentally clicked the [x] button instead of the [_] button, and the scan was promptly aborted and...

Okay, I recorded a screenshot, but it stutters a lot (my system is too slow to record in real-time), so it ends up only ~30 second (a lot of dropped frames), but the actual time is ~1 minute.

Like britd said, it happens with slow disks/discs or network folders, but having a lot of folders in a lot of folders (ie, lots of folders nested deeply) also does it. Also, having an old, slow system certainly helps (uh, I mean hurts). I’m using a P4 1.7GHz which takes 1-2 minutes if I scan my big ...

I agree that the new (3.3.0.25) folder dialog is not practical. It’s a nice feature, but currently does not work well enough to make it worth while. If there are a lot of folders, then Alldup can hang for a minute or two with 100% CPU while the folder dialog populates. The old way was slightly less ...
