Will this be ok for you?
Sure, anything that will allow you to efficiently enable/disable related groups of file types would be a big help.

Eh, no, I was at 3.9.1 - oops.
I'll give 3.9.8 a run tomorrow.

No, it's local.
I don't know that its necessarily that that cause the slowness.
The computer itself is old, doesn't run bad, but is certainly no powerhouse. Intel E4300 with 2GB RAM.
And I believe I've got at least two mapped drive letters, will check in the morning.

Eoow.

I see 398 adds "special folders".
And looks like it adds both "direct" & UNC paths & both /public/ & /{username}/ at that.

Definitely do not like that.
(Because I typically keep nothing in "special folders", preferring to keep stuff in places where I know where it is & where its easy for me to access).

On a faster computer, 391 & 398 load the drives much better.
Lacks the "snap" of AllDup 3, but it suffices.

I'll let you know about the older computer, later.

398, I've got either some font corruption or there's a spacing (layout) issue:

Lacks the "snap" of AllDup 3
The GUI of 3 pops up & is just "there", where there is a little "drawing" going on in 4.
So the (at the least) appearance that 3 is quicker to start up.
Just delete all special folders u dont need.
That worked.
always the latest beta version before sending any feedback!
Well, sure.
I just didn't realize there was anything later.

Well 3.9.8 makes it apparent (which was not the case with 3.9.1) that it is drive A: where the hangup occurs.

"Checking drive A:\..."

There a good 5 second delay with that.

And then I have two mapped drive (letters); G: & Z:, G: which points back to my computer & Z: which points to a networked computer.

Seems that "Fixed Drive Letters"; like A: C: E: ... G: Z: cannot be "Removed" from the drive list.
I imagine that I can work-around A: by disabling the "floppy" in the BIOS.
From the looks of it, G: & Z: would have to be unmapped to "disappear".
(That G: & Z: display isn't a problem, other then I simply don't need them to show up - at all.)

Please copy the content of the zip file into a folder with a existing portable edition of AllDup 3.9.8.

(But then I am switch back & forth between 3 really good, just updated programs...)

Working :-).
(I'll check the Filters later...)

I dont want to revamp the complete filter GUI but i think we can extend it and allow a special separator for each filter text so you can provide more than one filter: *.jpg|*.bmp|*.png

Will this be ok for you?
Nice.
Makes Filtering much more usable.
Works very well :-).

Currently AllDup checks for all available drive letters when starting the app.
I have changed this approach now.
AllDup only checks for available drive letters at the very first start of the app after installing.
This should fix the speed issue when starting the app and checking for drive letters.
Now you can add and remove drive letters by yourself.
The changes will be available with the upcoming v3.9.12 or higher.

Date/Time:

You have

Code: Select all

MM/dd/yyyy h:n:s
but not

Code: Select all

MM/dd/yyyy hh:mm:ss
Which would be nice, because it would allow the listing would be better justified.

As it is now dates can look quite awkward

Code: Select all

10/31/2015 12:59:59
     1/2/2015 1:2:1
Or even instead of certain fixed formats, allow free-form definition of date/time.
So give us: MM & dd & YY & YYYY & hh & mm & ss & AM & also allow literal characters

And with that we can then do something like: MM-dd-YY hh:mm.ss.

PS:

Abreviation of 'minute', :m: vs :n:.

Select Mode icon.

Some method to show when a method other then 'All' has been chosen.
Perhaps All, remains as it is, just the icon.

But with all other modes, the icon changes, made smaller, & an abbreviated text of the chosen mode displays.

So if 'Expanded groups' is set, you get a smaller icon with the word (be it actual text or just part of the icon itself), Expanded underneath.

As it is now, if somewhere along the line you may have made a change to 'Select Mode', but forgotten you did so, that can greatly affect any Select all/Unselect all operations.

So some sort of differentiation would help to point that out.
